du Pré Marine has been appointed as a UK distributor for FLIR's range of marine thermal imaging cameras.
FLIR thermal imaging cameras literally turn night into day; they are not reliant on residual light (unlike other forms of 'night scope') and can offer unrivalled levels of confidence and safety in dark and difficult conditions.
FLIR recently won the prestigious DAME (Design at METS) 2009 marine equipment award for its M-626L thermal imaging camera. It has also seen much interest in its new FLIR HM-Series handheld units.
FLIR employs 1900 people worldwide and has an annual turnover of $1.1bn (2008). Its approach to design, manufacturing and support is second to none. FLIR was founded in 1978, originally providing infrared imaging systems that were installed on vehicles for use in conducting energy audits. The California-based company has expanded into many markets since then, including commercial and leisure marine.
The du Pré group employs 100 people across two sites in the UK, with activities that include BSI certified support of telecommunications and specialist supply and consultation for business continuity services. The group's founder is former BA/BOAC pilot Piers du Pré, a highly experienced Yachtmaster and motor yacht owner. Its executive officer is Kim Hollamby, formerly of Time Warner group company IPC Media where he was editor of Motor Boats Monthly, and International Boat Industry, publisher of ybw.com and digital development director for a large number of its titles. du Pré Marine's Sales Manager is Peter Furby, who is widely known across the UK marine industry and by many boatowners for his work on introducing innovative 3M products into the manufacturing, wholesale and retail sectors.
FLIR is a perfect fit for the 'Be Seen and Heard' focus for du Pré Marine. It will form a very important part of the company's specialist and high quality product portfolio.
