Lasersec Systems launches handheld Medusa laser deterrent
Lasersec Systems' has launched the Medusa, a non-lethal fully portable deterrent device comprising a rifle-mounted laser connected to a backpack power unit.
The Lasersec Medusa has a medium range transmitter integrated as standard in the rifle stock and this can be used in conjunction with a long-range or short-range transmitter, the latter designed especially for closer-in crowd control. The beam is selectable between a standard projection, or a pulsing one designed to induce confusion and nausea for anyone caught in its glare.
du Pré Marine recently took a unit on trial out to sea and found it remarkably easy to operate, even without a sight. The laser operates in the visible spectrum and is very obvious, even in quite bright daylight. It was possible to easily paint a target more than 100m away and all present agreed that it would have served to discourage any attempt to approach closer had the subject of our aim been hostile.
The Lasersec Medusa joins the fixed SeaLase unit and SeaTrack video and radar tracking unit in du Pré Marine's portfolio of non-lethal deterrents for specialist anti-piracy and similar applications.
