Lasersec Systems' Medusa is a non-lethal fully portable deterrent device comprising a rifle-mounted laser connected to a backpack power unit.

The Medusa's laser system is a diode-pumped solid-state unit which operates in the visible region of the spectrum. Hermetic sealing of the laser unit ensures a high level of reliability and long lifetime.

A medium range transmitter is integrated in the rifle stock and this can be used in conjunction with a long-range or short-range transmitter, the latter designed especially for closer-in crowd control. The beam is selectable between a standard projection, or a pulsing one designed to induce confusion and nausea for anyone caught in its glare. Standard rating is 5W but a 10W option is available. Both are safely inside the 150W rating where restrictions apply - this should make the Medusa relatively straightforward to carry in transit.

The lightweight rifle-style mount can be fitted with a range of sights or a FLIR handheld thermal imaging camera. The connected battery pack uses Li-ion batteries which should provide up to 60 minutes of continuous operation. It is also possible to utlilise external 12V DC power.
